FAQs about SongPublishing
If I already distribute my music with SongPlug, does it make sense to add publishing?
Yes. Distribution covers master royalties; publishing covers songwriting/composition royalties. They’re two different revenue streams. Managing both with the same team reduces errors and increases earnings. If you only distribute:
- Your streams may generate publishing royalties that no one is claiming.
- Your works may be incorrectly registered with collecting societies.
- Part of your income may be held or misallocated.
- You miss sync and other catalog opportunities because no one is pushing the composition side.
What does SongPlug Distro cover vs. SongPublishing?
SongPlug Distro:
Delivery to 50+ platforms, Content ID, claims, monetization, master reporting, pitching and Discovery Mode, among other services.SongPublishing:
Work registration, publishing royalty collection, and sync opportunity sourcing.
Do I need to be affiliated with a collecting society to work with SongPublishing?
It depends on your territory and situation, but in most cases it’s recommended. We’ll advise you on the best setup between your personal affiliation and our publishing administration.
